Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) RADIO Practice Exam

Driving at excessive speeds in a residential area is categorized as speeding or racing because it indicates a disregard for the safety norms typically enforced in such zones. Residential areas often have lower speed limits implemented to protect pedestrians, children, and property in close proximity to the road. Speeding in these settings not only increases the potential for accidents but also raises the severity of those accidents due to the higher velocity involved. This behavior poses a risk to the community, highlighting the importance of adhering to traffic regulations that are specifically designed to ensure safety in populated areas.

In contrast, making a complete stop at intersections, following traffic signs and signals, and driving at the speed limit during daylight hours all reflect responsible driving behaviors that follow the established rules of the road. These actions demonstrate compliance with traffic laws, geared towards maintaining order and safety for all road users.
